چکیده

Our velocity measurements on a quasi-two-dimensional turbulent flow in a rapidly rotating annulus yield an inverse cascade with E(k) ∼ k−2 rather than the expected E(k) ∼ k−5/3. The probability distribution functions for longitudinal velocity differences, δv(r) = v(x + r) − v(x), are self-similar (scale independent) but strongly non-Gaussian, which suggests that the coherent vortices play a significant role. The structure functions, 〈[δv(r)]p〉 ∼ rζp , exhibit anomalous scaling: ζp = p 2 rather than ζp = p 3 as in the 1941 Kolmogorov

Anomalous Scaling and Generic Structure Function in Turbulence

We discuss on an example a general mechanism of apparition of anomalous scaling in scale invariant systems via zero modes of a scale invariant operator. We discuss the relevance of such mechanism in turbulence, and point out a peculiarity of turbulent flows, due to the existence of both forcing and dissipation. Following these considerations, we show that if this mechanism of anomalous scaling ...

Anomalous spectral laws in differential models of turbulence

Differential models for hydrodynamic, passive-scalar and wave turbulence given by nonlinear firstand second-order evolution equations for the energy spectrum in the k-space were analysed. Both types of models predict formation an anomalous transient power-law spectra. The second-order models were analysed in terms of self-similar solutions of the second kind, and a phenomenological formula for ...

Long-range dependence and second-order intermittency of two dimensional turbulence

This paper proposes a class of models to represent, in the same framework, the self-similarity/long-range dependence and secondorder intermittency of 2-D turbulence. A method is given to estimate and separate these two effects. Application to a vorticity field indicates that the resulting energy spectrum follows the power laws, in the low-frequency as well as the high-frequency range, commonly ...

Self-similarity and Nite Time Intermittent Eeects in Turbulent Sequences

We propose a method to analyze a turbulent sequence focusing on the self-similar properties of the discrete system it generates. First we show how to approximate the self-similar exponent (= 1=3 in the case of hydrodynamic turbulence) from the nite time measurements, and then we establish a criterion to characterize the deviations from asymptotic scaling of the empirical measure generated by ni...

Dimensional Analysis and Weak Turbulence

In the study of weakly turbulent wave systems possessing incomplete self-similarity it is possible to use dimensional arguments to derive the scaling exponents of the Kolmogorov-Zakharov spectra, provided the order of the resonant wave interactions responsible for nonlinear energy transfer is known. Furthermore one can easily derive conditions for the breakdown of the weak turbulence approximat...
